A shop in Otford that has been in the Lowrie family since 1920 is now Otford Antiques & Collectors Centre.
David Lowrie ran his Gunsmith business from the property for twenty five years before retiring. But now that the shop has fallen vacant, he has decided to go back to work and with his wife, Beryl, they have now refurbished the property. All ten rooms are now let to antique dealers in the area. Although under the same roof, the collectables will be housed quite separately and this is where David's interest lies. He is a collector of tools, cameras and of course, guns, and is now in charge of the running of the centre.
David's grandfather came to live in Otford before the First World War and he became involved in converting some of the cottages on the north side of the High Street. At least 300 years old, the rooms have exposed beams and oak panelled walls. Next door used to be Lowrie Stores which was run by David's father as a grocery shop before it became a hardware store.
David and Beryl moved from Otford to Ightham fifteen years ago and in true Lowrie style, bought a semi-derelict Fifteenth Century house which they have faithfully restored to its former glory. There they brought up their three daughters who are now married with families of their own: the couple now have five grandchildren!
